Health for All Strengthening the National Health Service of Sao Tome and Principe (Specialities and Telemedicine)

What we do?

We contribute to the reinforcement and improvement of the response capacity of the National Health Service of Sao Tome and Principe and we promote the provision of sustainable and quality specialised healthcare and telemedicine.

Why?

  • Improve and strengthen the offer of specialised care and telemedicine in the country;
  • Train National Health System professionals to have greater autonomy in providing specialised care and managing health information.

How?

  • Rehabilitating and adapting medical-hospital infrastructures;
  • Strengthening and extending the Telemedicine network (Portugal-São Tomé and Príncipe);
  • Continuing the short-term missions of specialised doctors to Sao Tome and Principe;
  • Undertaking technical assistance and hospital management and administration missions;
  • Acquiring materials, equipment and consumables for the provision of specialised care.

For whom?

  • All the santomean population, around 215,056 inhabitants as users of the National Health Service;
  • Around 1,282 health professionals (doctors and nurses) from the santomean National Health Service receiving on-the-job training during medical missions and via telemedicine;
  • 2 doctors benefiting from long-term specialised training in Portugal.
